Matter brief

From signal to accountable action

01

The buyer problem: features do not show the operating day

A product list can describe analytics, workflow and AI without showing how a lawyer or operator moves through a real question. Buyers need to see where information comes from, what MatterLayer adds, where judgement occurs and how a next action returns to accountable work. The product tour therefore follows a matter-level path rather than treating each capability as an isolated screen.

02

Capture the right signals

View the work, documents, time and relationship activity that shape a matter’s operating context. The aim is not to copy every field into another repository or suggest every source has the same meaning. MatterLayer brings approved cues into a matter view so the team can recognise change, understand what is available and decide whether more evidence must be gathered from an authoritative system.

03

Investigate with context

Trace a prompt back to the signals behind it so lawyers and operators can assess what it means. A useful interface exposes uncertainty, missing information and the boundary of the observation. It does not convert a pattern into legal advice or an automatic conclusion. The responsible reviewer still checks the matter, applies professional judgement and decides whether the prompt should be dismissed, explored or escalated.

04

Coordinate next actions

Use shared visibility to route follow-up to the person or team best placed to act. The intended operating pattern keeps the firm’s connected systems as their respective sources of truth while MatterLayer supports attention and coordination across them. Permissions, approvals and Pilot scope determine what can be read or written; a named integration is not evidence of vendor endorsement or a universal connection.

05

Evaluate the tour against a real question

During implementation, bring one representative operating question and identify how the tour’s signal, review and action sequence would work in the firm. Note missing sources, ambiguous ownership and exceptions rather than designing only for the happy path. Success means the team can explain the proposed workflow, its controls and its value well enough to choose a bounded Pilot, not that a demonstration proves a production outcome.

Bring one real operating question into the beta.

Start with a bounded matter signal, workflow or reporting need and define the evidence, review and action path together.
