Pilot brief

Legal research may be sound while its status, ownership or relationship to a matter is difficult for the wider team to see. A LexisNexis Pilot considers whether limited workflow metadata or links can help coordinate that work without reproducing licensed content or interpreting legal authority.

Select one research hand-off or review-queue question and define the permitted context. MatterLayer can associate an agreed cue with the matter, after which an authorised lawyer returns to the licensed source, evaluates the research and decides what should happen next.

No content ingestion, search coverage, API feature or licence entitlement is assumed. Those conditions must be validated with the firm’s arrangements. Research metadata cannot replace checking current authority, and LexisNexis is not represented as endorsing or partnering with MatterLayer.

Document the licensed-content boundary, authorised users, permitted links or metadata and the point where lawyer review is mandatory. Test restricted and incomplete examples. Agree how research ownership and status are recorded without creating a parallel legal knowledge source that could become stale.

Assess whether research hand-offs and review ownership are easier to see and whether authorised users reach the relevant source with less searching. Track missing and misleading associations. The Pilot does not establish research quality, legal accuracy or improved matter outcomes.
Only agreed research metadata, links or workflow context needed for the documented use case and permitted licensed boundary.
