Document management

Pilot

A Pilot connection for iManage document context.

Explore whether agreed iManage context helps legal teams find the matter signals needed for a responsible review.

Pilot status: This page describes MatterLayer's evaluation scope. It does not mean iManage endorses MatterLayer, and it does not imply a vendor partnership.

Pilot brief

A bounded operating scope

01

Buyer problem: document context is present but hard to coordinate

A matter workspace can contain substantial evidence while teams still struggle to see which document activity or hand-off deserves attention. An iManage Pilot evaluates whether selected metadata and matter associations can support a focused operating review without claiming that MatterLayer reads or reproduces every document.

02

Pilot operating pattern

Define one document-context question and begin with the least information needed to support it. MatterLayer can present an agreed iManage cue and matter association, after which an authorised user returns to the source context to verify meaning and decide any follow-up.

03

Boundaries and limitations

No content access, search capability, write-back or connection method is assumed. The firm must validate available metadata, permissions and licensed use. Document absence may reflect access rather than fact, and iManage is not represented as endorsing or partnering with MatterLayer.

04

Implementation discussion

Map workspaces and matter associations carefully, preserve source permissions and test ethical-wall conditions and unusual filing patterns. Agree whether the Pilot remains metadata-first, how a misassociation is corrected and who can inspect underlying material. Expansion requires a fresh review of the data boundary.

05

Measured Pilot outcome

Assess whether authorised reviewers locate relevant document context and hand-off issues with less searching and clearer ownership. Track missing, mislinked and inaccessible items. Do not infer better legal analysis, knowledge quality or client results simply because metadata can be presented in a matter view.

Intended data scope

Selected workspace, document metadata and matter associations required for the approved Pilot use case and authorised permissions.

Workflows to evaluate

  • Document-context review
  • Matter hand-off investigation
  • Knowledge signal triage

Controls to agree

  • Metadata-first scope
  • Access-aligned permissions
  • Human review of findings
