Buyer problem: AI work needs matter-level oversight

A legal-AI task may sit beside the matter workflow without giving supervisors a consistent view of status, review or exceptions. A CoCounsel Pilot considers whether limited operational context can support oversight while keeping the legal work, source checking and decision responsibility with authorised lawyers.

Pilot operating pattern

Define one AI-workflow review or escalation question and the approved context needed to coordinate it. MatterLayer can associate the cue with a matter and responsible role. The lawyer then reviews the underlying work and decides whether to accept, revise, investigate or escalate.

Boundaries and limitations

No CoCounsel API, output access or workflow capability is promised. Connection methods, permissions and permitted data must be validated. MatterLayer does not verify legal accuracy merely by showing a workflow reference, and CoCounsel is not represented as endorsing or partnering with MatterLayer.

Implementation discussion

Agree purpose, authorised users, data scope, review standard, escalation path and stop conditions before using real matters. Test incomplete and incorrect outputs as well as routine work. Prevent autonomous legal decisions and document how a reviewer records acceptance or required correction.

Measured Pilot outcome

Assess whether AI-workflow ownership, review status and escalation become easier to see without weakening lawyer oversight. Track missing associations, rework and unresolved exceptions. The Pilot does not prove legal quality, time savings or customer outcomes unless independently measured and supported.

Intended data scope

Only approved workflow references, matter associations and operational metadata needed for the Pilot, subject to authorised availability.
